Plan a Visit

The BC Archives is located in downtown Victoria, at 655 Belleville Street, at the corner of Belleville and Government Streets, next to the Royal BC Museum and close to the Legislative Buildings and the Empress Hotel.  It houses the recorded evidence and stories of British Columbia’s past.  The extensive collections include original documents, photographs, maps, paintings, sound recordings, films and books – some dating back more than two centuries.  They are a rich source of information for researchers, whether pursuing family history, scholarly studies, legal inquiries, or general historical research.

If you are thinking of a research visit please check our hours of service and registration procedures and review the information provided under Planning Ahead.

If you are unable to come in person, you can send us written inquiries and orders for copies of material in our collection or hire a private researcher.
